Gwithian Beach is located at the northern tip of St Ives Bay. 2 miles from the fishing town of Hayle and 4 miles from the popular tourist town of St Ives. Gwithian is Cornwall’s longest beach, with its golden sand stretching over 3 miles. The spacious beach is very popular with water sport enthusiasts with plenty of room for bodyboarding, kite-surfing and surfing. 

Gwithian is home to our surf school ‘Global Boarders’ and our eBike Hire Centre ‘Go eBike’. You can find us based directly next to Gwithian’s only beach front café / bar ‘Sunset Surf’, where we have excellent facilities for our customer to enjoy, including heated changing rooms, private toilets and showers. We run daily beginner and improver surf lessons and specialise in small family groups and solo travellers, with our typical group ratio being 1 coach to 4 students.

If discovering Cornwall by land is more to your fancy, then hiring an eBike from our centre at Gwithian and following one of our favourite routes won’t disappoint. Challenge Cornwall’s rugged terrain with ease and let the added electric power boost your natural leg speed and let you to take on even the steepest hills without any difficulty.

Gwithian has a great selection of local amenities including a daily lifeguard service  (10am – 6pm), a beach cafe / bar, public toilets and a large car park.

Founded in 2005 our surf school 'Global Boarders' is one of the most experienced operators at Gwithian. We also have a second base 20 minutes away on the south coast of Cornwall at Praa Sands Beach.. We run daily public and private lessons at Gwithian beach where we can be found underneath Sunset Surf Cafe.

Beginner Surf Lesson from Gwithian Beach, Cornwall

Beginner Surf Lessons

A Beginner Surf Lesson is for someone who has never surfed before or had a few lessons months / years ago and need a refresher! The lesson will be divided into 3 simple parts; A - Safety and beach technique. B - Learning how to catch waves and C - Learning how to popup to your feet. The average beginner lesson ratio is 1 coach to 4 students, the maximum ratio is 1:8. Lessons are 2-hours long and all equipment is provided. Prices start at £45.00 per person.
